
ITANAGAR: Rige Kaye, a powerlifter from Arunachal Pradesh, won a gold medal in the 67.5 kg senior men’s category at the World Powerlifting Championship in Cairo, Egypt. He lifted a total of 500 kg in raw powerlifting.
Kaye, originally from Telam village in Lower Siang district, had previously won a gold medal in the 67.5 kg category at the National Deadlift Championship organized by the World Powerlifting Congress in Hyderabad, Telangana, in 2024. Kaye has won many gold and silver medals in powerlifting at different district, state, and national competitions. He is also a certified international personal trainer.
In the meantime, in a display of spectacular skills and determination, the kick-boxers from Arunachal Pradesh managed to win 10 medals in the recently held 4th Wako Indian Open International Kickboxing Tournament 2025 in New Delhi. With 3 gold and 4 silver and 3 bronze medals, Arunachal bagged a shining showcase of sports prowess.
The gold medals were given to Robin Deori, Tason Ekke, and Chamchak Mossang. Deori won in the low kick event for senior men in the under 67 kg category, Ekke won in the kick light event for junior boys in the under 52 kg category, and Mossang won in the kick light event for senior women in the under 55 kg category.
The silver medalists included Kishor Thapa, who competed in the low kick event for senior men in the below 81 kg category, Jipe Lombi in the K1 event for senior men in the below 60 kg category, Bishal Mura in the low kick event for senior men in the below 57 kg category, and Sorita Shrestha in the low kick event for junior girls in the below 58 kg category.
