Itanagar: In a significant move to honour indigenous resistance, the Tirap district administration in Arunachal Pradesh, has officially recognised two prominent Nocte freedom fighters from the region,  Wangto Lowang and Wangmaan Lowangdong. Wangto Lowang, the then chief of Kheti village, led his people in a valiant stand against British forces during the Anglo-Nocte war on November 25, 1842. Similarly, Wangmaan Lowangdong, chief of Borduria village, played a pivotal role in the Nocte resistance against British colonial expansion on May 18, 1875, asserting the sovereignty and independence of his community.
