ASI Suspended Over Graft Case By Arunachal Pradesh Police

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Police suspended an officer for allegedly accepting Rs 40,000 as bribe from an accused of an accident case of a local police station, Capital SP Tumme Amo said.

The assistant sub inspector was the investigating officer the case.

A complaint was received from an accused of the accident that the said officer had demanded graffiti to facilitate his bail, Amo said, adding, “She made him believe that it was a non-bailable offence, though it was a bail able offence”.

The accused said that he was taking his wife to a hospital by his vehicle on April 24 last but the brake on the way developed defect forcing him to drive to a garage near Arunodaya HS School for repairing. While entering to the garage, his vehicle hit two mechanics of the garage because of defective brake. Subsequently, the garage owner lodged a complaint with the PS and she was made IO of the case, Amo said.

“Any form of corruption will not be tolerated,” Amo said toeing Pema Khandu government’s policy of zero tolerance to corruption. He added that cleanliness and honesty should begin from self, before correcting others.
