Awareness Meet on Tobacco Control Held at District Tobacco Control Cell

ITANAGAR: District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCL), Seppa in its second-quarter organized a school awareness campaign cum orientation programme on national tobacco control for ‘Tobacco Free Youth’ under the supervision of Dr.K.Gyadi,DPO,NTCP with an objective to sensitized the youths of East Kameng district, about the health hazard of tobacco consumption and also to educate them in various sections of COTPA Act, 2003 at various schools of the District.
1250 students and 40 teaching and non-teaching staffs were attended in the awareness campaign programme. During the campaign, Yama Potom (consultant) highlighted the objectives of NTCP to the participants. She also sensitized the participants about the various sections under COTPA ACT 2003. Further, she warned the participants that if anyone violates any of these provisions than the head of the institution may fine that person of Rs 200 as a penalty. She also appealed to all concern head of the institution to implement the COTPA sections at their respective schools.
DPO, NTCP Dr K. Gyadi, informed that 6.5 million people died every year globally because of this tobacco consumption. He also informed that tobacco consumption can cause many consequences like poverty, environmental pollution, environmental degradation, early death of the bread runner and more.
