Awareness programme on COVID-19 was conducted in Tawang district

Itanagar: An awareness programme on COVID-19 (coronavirus) was conducted on Friday in Tawang district which was attended by local MLA Tsering Tashi among others.

Prior to the formal meeting, Tashi and Tawang DC Sang Phuntsok had a meeting with all the spiritual leaders of major monasteries and nunneries of the district besides former panchayat leaders to discuss the spiritual measures to be taken to bring awareness and prevention of the virus among the people.

It was decided that prayers, rituals, and chanting of mantras would be conducted by all the monasteries voluntarily for prevention of COVID-19 on Sunday and higher lamas will be consulted for further rituals and prayers.

While addressing the meeting at the DC office later, Tashi said that the state government was serious and taking all steps to check and prevent its citizens from being infected with the virus.

“We have to take refuge in religion and faith for the solutions which are beyond science and human capacity and requested all to take preventive care saying prevention is always better than cure,” he said and requested all not to spread rumors and false information in social media.

Representing Khandro Drowa Tsangmu District Hospital Dr. Tenzin Kunga gave a brief presentation on COVID-19 and informed about the facts on the virus. He also replied to the queries put forwarded by members of various organizations present in the meeting, clarifying their doubts about the virus.

DC Sang Phuntsok informed that the government has already issued orders preventing any foreign tourists from entering Arunachal Pradesh, domestic tourists and all entering the state from Bhalukpong and Balemu are being screened and if required they would be further screened at Jang checkpoint.

He also assured that official correspondence would be made with administration of neighboring country Bhutan on the movement of the public from both the side keeping in view the ensuing religious functions at both sides, an official communiqué informed here.
