Itanagar: An awareness session on coronavirus (COVID-19) was on Thursday conducted in the Governor’s secretariat here, for the employees of Raj Bhavan.

Senior Medical Officer of Raj Bhawan dispensary Dr. Jennifer Tayeng briefed the employees about the epidemiology of COVID-19 globally and in India and on preventive measures through personal hygiene and etiquette.

Dr. Tayeng said that the spread of Coronavirus could be contained if all the staff avoid closed crowded spaces, maintain a distance of 1 meter, refrain from touching their own face, nose, and mouth, physical contact like shaking hands and religiously follow frequent hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.

She cautioned the staff against bulk purchasing of masks and hand sanitizers, which, she said deprives other people of the vital items, thereby inviting faster spread of the disease, a Raj Bhawan communique informed here.

Dr. Tayeng asked the staff to home quarantine any relatives coming from COVID 19 infected places having symptoms of any respiratory infections like cough for at least 14 days, before allowing them to move around.

She emphasized seeking medical care immediately, in case, they find common symptoms include fever, fatigue, dry cough and breathing difficulty in their ward.

Meanwhile, similar training was also organized at Pasighat, the headquarters of East Siang district on Wednesday for all medical, health and wellness officers, nurses, laboratory technicians, private clinics, NGOs and student unions among others.

The training was organized by the District Health Society under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) of the district at General Hospital, under the chairmanship of DC Dr. Kinny Singh.

The DC directed the health department and other participants to undergo the training thoroughly and be ready for any eventuality and to make proper treatment strategies. She also stressed on screening of passengers entering the district and reporting to make proper treatment, investigation, and compilation of flu-like cases.
