NEW DELHI: The Ministry of DoNER, as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, is organizing a North East Festival across all the eight Northeastern States from April 28 to May 4.

As India is celebrating its glorious history, people, culture and achievements during its 75 years of Independence, the Ministry intends to highlight the beauty of the Northeastern region and its achievements in various fields through this festival.

The seven-day festival, which is being celebrated at the regional and State levels, aims to showcase the achievements of the Northeastern region with the spirit of 'Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahi'.

DoNER Minister G Kishna Reddy informed the media that a special Agriculture Task Force has been formed to ensure mission mode work on harnessing the agriculture and horticulture potential of the Northeastern region. He also said that development is the prime agenda in the region and the Central Government and State Governments are in constant touch with each other.

Each of the seven days will be based on separate themes, these include: Investment Potential and future energy needs of North East' on April 29 at Shillong; 'Welfare of Tribals and Border Management' on April 30 at Itanagar; 'The Smart City Revolution in the NE' on April 30 at Gangtok; 'Role of women in development of NE' on May 1 at Agartala; 'Eco-Tourism in NE' on May 2 at Aizawl; 'Agri-Horti and organic products potential of North East' May 2 at Dimapur; 'Sports Potential of the NE', to be celebrated as a parallel Sports week, has also been organized. Similarly, work is underway to connect the State capitals of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland through four-lane and alternate two-lane highways to Sikkim. The connectivity in interior areas is being given a fillip through the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna. As on date, there are 15 operational airports in the North-East and work on 24 projects for upgradation and modernization and creation of new airports is underway. In a similar way, projects are underway in telecom, power, international connectivity and Science and Technology.

The President of India has consented to be present at the valedictory function at Guwahati on May 4, stated a press release.
