Itanagar: The 166th birthday celebration of Maa Sarada Devi was celebrated at Ramakrishna Mission Aalo, in West Siang district on Friday with pomp and religious fervour. Various programmes were organised in the main prayer hall since morning where about 700 students, well-wishers and admirers of the Mission attended, an official release informed.
An elaborate Puja and yajna were performed by the sadhus and brahmacharins of the Mission. Devotional songs presentation by monks, staff and students were highlights of the day-long programme. Presence of students, staff, devotees, well-wishers and managing committee members enhanced the celebration. The programme started with vedic chanting and stotras by monks followed by reading of life and teachings of Sarada Devi in Hindi. A photo exhibition on life and teaching of Sarada Devi was also arranged for the visitors.
In the evening, special arati was performed along with sankirtan and bhajans. Sweets were also distributed to all. On the occasion, garments and ladies belts, gents and ladies moneybags were distributed to 78 families of nearby villages, the release added.
