BJP charges Congress of inciting youth on Permanent Resident Certificate issue

Itanagar: The BJP in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday charged the Congress of inciting the youth to go for massive rampage in the State capital over the Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) issue which claimed three lives besides leaving a trail of destruction last month.

The development came barely a day after Opposition political parties including Congress, Janata Dal (Secular), People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) and National Peoples’ Party (NPP) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra demanding resignation of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju.

The Opposition parties under the banner of All Party Coordination Committee (APCC) have demanded the resignation of Khandu, Mein and Rijiju for their failure in controlling law and order situation during the turmoil. “The Congress misled the youths, took the advantage of the PRC issue and incited the youth, even school-going minors to go for a massive rampage from February 22 to 24,” BJP vice president Dominic Tadar told reporters at party office here on Thursday.

While condemning the political parties for making such demands, the party leader alleged that the PRC issue was a handiwork of the Congress.

“The Opposition parties have no genuine issue to raise and hence took the angle of deterioration of law and order to demand resignation of Khandu, Mein and Rijiju,” Tadar said and alleged that the recent unrest in the State capital was done by the Congress and its goons.

The party leaders further alleged that during the protest, only properties of BJP leaders were vandalised and looted but not of leaders from any of the Opposition parties.

Stating that there is no question of resignation of Khandu, Mein and Rijiju, the party leader informed that proper investigation would be conducted to unearth the truth and bring the culprits to book.

“The Team Arunachal government has shown immense tenacity in taking boldest decision with the sole mantra of transparency, honesty and integrity with zero tolerance to corruption,” Tadar added.
