BJP resolves for separate cadre for Arunachal

Our correspondent

Itanagar, May 12: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the BJP in its State executive meeting at Ziro in Lower Subansiri district on Friday adopted the resolution for creation of separate cadre of All India Services of IAS, IPS, IFS & IRS for the State to delink it from existing AGMUT cadre.

"It has been the experience of the State that a major bottleneck faced in the development of the State was due to the lack of a dedicated higher bureaucracy," said Chief Minister Pema Khandu while the political resolution was being debated. In the last Legislative Assembly session (March 2018) too, a resolution was unanimously passed to move the Centre for the creation of a separate cadre for Arunachal Pradesh.

Further, Khandu reminded that with the conferment of Statehood, transfer of all powers due to a State for full- fledged functioning was accorded. However, the senior bureaucracy (All India Services- IAS/IPS/IFS) of the Union Territory, which holds the key in taking up the administration, continued to function in the State.

With small tenures, the officers of the UT cadre, despite best intentions, could not do justice to their work, as they would be transferred to other segments of the cadre. Earlier in the day, in his presidential speech at the two-day State executive meeting, State BJP president Tapir Gao told party functionaries: "As you are the karyakartas of the largest political party in the world, you should work for the overall development. And also you should do your part for the party without being told to or without any portfolio."

"In our party we do not think about our own development first, if you have joined the party for gaining personal gains then this is not the party to be in. It's against our party ideology and principles."

Gao complimented the Khandu government for its cabinet decision to route all the developmental schemes through the district development committee led by respective deputy commissioner.

The day also saw the economic and political resolutions being adopted. The economic resolution was moved by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein who highlighted the joint effort of Team Arunachal to achieve a record breaking GST collection, while the political resolution was moved by Minister for PHE & Water Supply Bamang Felix highlighting the determination of Team Arunachal to curb all corruption, starting with the handing over of the infamous PDS scam to the CBI, a party release stated here on Saturday .
