CHONGKHAM: Reacting to the 15-day ultimatum served by All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) demanding action against EAC of Diyun, the DC of Changlang and MLA of Diyun Bordumsa, the Arunachal Pradesh Chakma Students' Union (APCSU) has urged the AAPSU to work for an amicable solution.

Speaking to the media, APCSU vice president (Admin) Bipin Roshan Chakma claimed that "90 per cent of Chakmas residing in Arunachal are citizens of India and there is nothing wrong with getting a Residential Proof Certificate (RPC)". He also disclosed that more than 500 RPCs have been issued and most of the documents were being used by students to pursue higher education or seek Central Government jobs.

He also clarified that one Robin Chakma was appointed as LDC in the EAC office in Diyun purely on a private basis to assist the Government staff.

"Time has come to end the long vexed issue of Chakma community, so we appeal to the newly-elected AAPSU executives to put an end to the refugee issue through dialogue and round table discussion," added BR Chakma.

Stating that, he also claimed that there are more than 47,471 Chakmas in different districts of Arunachal Pradesh, and at least 4,000 of them have voting rights. "We are confused, if we are refugees then why have we been given voting rights, if not then why all the facilities under refugee norms are not been provided till date," questioned the APCSU vice president.

When asked about the statement of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister Pema Khandu on the deportation of Chakma-Hajongs from the State, he categorically claimed that the statement was merely political and not possible factually.
