RONO HILLS: With candles in their hands, students of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here on Saturday held a candle light march to pay tribute to Khonsa MLA Tirong Aboh and 11 others who were killed by suspected NSCN (IM) militants on May 21.

The students were joined by RGU faculty members and members of AAPSU. They were seen holding posters demanding justice and photos of the victims who lost their lives to the attack. Assistant professor of AITS Department Dr Wanglit Mongchan said the incident has sent shockwaves in the State. We are not sad about the incident but angry, he said.

Condeming the incident he said the people in Tirap, Changlang and Longding are threatened on a daily basis by the insurgents who do not wish to see development in their region.

“Aboh came from a very humble background and always stood for the welfare of the people,” Dr Wanglit said. AAPSU IPR secretary Techi Mupu demanded the State Government to hand over the case to the NIA and sought for permanent removal of the underground elements from the TLC region.

AAPSU spokesperson Nefa Wangsa remembered Aboh as a vocal, performing and outspoken leader and said that the atrocities faced by the TLC region needs a permanent political solution, stated a press release.
