ITANAGAR: Capital SP Jimmy Chiram said that the capital police have arrested six people and seized 27.2 grams of suspected heroin from their possession from ICR and Gohpur, Assam last Friday.

Addressing the media person at the Chimpu police station near here today, Chiram said that during a detailed motor vehicle check on May 17, three persons, Thomas Gyadi, Kamin Neri and James Tungi were arrested with a suspected narcotic substance of 12 grams.

He said during interrogation, it was disclosed that heroin was being supplied somewhere from Gohpur, Assam. Subsequently, a team of police was constituted from the Chimpu police station, and with help from Assam police, three more people were arrested from Gohpur on Friday.

"The police arrested Phulan Kaman, Papu Saikia and Ajay Singhi somewhere in the Gohpur area. More narcotic substances were recovered from their possession. The possession also included sale proceeds amounting to Rupees 28, 000," he said, adding that 220 empty vials, 20 vials filled with heroin and one Scotty and a motorcycle were also seized.

Chiram said that this is a clear message to the public and the peddlers that the police forces are in their continuing war against drugs. He also warned the peddlers to restrain themselves from such acts as the police will always catch them.

"I also appeal to the users to approach the police so that the de-addiction procedures can be provided. Likewise, the police are also ensuring regular checking of various interstate boundaries. The police this year have so far registered more than ten cases related to drugs," he added.

Chiram also made it clear that the police will not be biased in arresting any person, be it from the law enforcement department or any other professional involved in drug consumption or selling.
