Itanagar: Union Minister Jual Oram informed that a sum of Rs 199 crore has been sanctioned for 23 districts, 84 blocks and 329 villages of Arunachal Pradesh under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA). The Union Minister of Tribal Affairs informed this during a function here Friday night.

Talking about the tribal craftsmanship in the state, Oram assured help from the skill development ministry for the same and urged for increasing its marketing. The minister also spoke highly of the priests from the various tribes and called them the torchbearers of the indigenous practices. He also lauded the effort of Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) for trying to revive the age-old practices of the tribal communities.

“With the coming of the modern age, setting up of an institution to revive age-old practices, work on its documentation, mandate and then publicizing is essential,” he said.

Oram further informed that a total of 10 Eklavya Model Residential Schools have been sanctioned for the state, of which five are already functioning, two are ready and will be functional by the next academic session and three are still pending. He emphasized on free education for the students of classes 6 to 12 in the school.
