ITANAGAR: A fault in a 220 KV transmission line has been disrupting power supply to three districts across Arunachal Pradesh since Sunday afternoon, and it has posed a serious challenge for the authorities to manage the COVID-19 Care Centres, said Public Health Engineering & Water Supply Minister Wangki Lowang here on Wednesday.

The three districts in the eastern part of the State facing power crisis are Tirap, Changlang and Longding.

Lowang, who represents the Namsang Assembly constituency in Tirap district, informed that the Khatalguri-Deomali 220 KV line drawn from Khatalguri in Assam tripped due to technical defect at 4.32 pm on Sunday for which the people of the districts are also suffering.

"Lifting water through diesel generators is equally a tough job for which the medical system has almost collapsed in the districts," he said.

The Minister added that there are no alternative arrangements for power supply in the districts.

Lowang said that though executive engineer of power transmission Division-III based at Pasighat in East Siang district had said that power supply would be restored within two to three days, there is no certainty. "I apprised the matter to Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who is also the power minister, of the critical situation and urged him to take urgent steps for restoration of power supply to end sufferings of the people," Lowang said.

Meanwhile, power transmission Division-III Executive Engineer in a communique informed that the power supply to the eastern districts of the State would be affected till restoration of the Kathalguri-Deomali 220 KV line which tripped on Sunday evening.
