BORDUMSA: 'On Monday, I will take up the matter regarding the mushrooming of hotels selling liquor illegally and also check the modus operandi of various wine traders and retail outlets in Bordumsa. Steps will be taken to verify the status of their licenses and cross-check those with the actual number of retail outlets operating on the ground. Anyone found violating the Excise Rules would be dealt with as per law," assured Changlang DC Dr. Devansh Yadav on Sunday.

The Sentinel, in its Sunday issue, carried a detailed report on the various aspects related to liquor trading — both locally and across the Assam-Arunachal border. The report created ripples among the traders. The retail and wholesale wine traders have been reportedly running from pillar to post and approaching the local tribal people to manage the journal on Monday, I will take up the matter regarding the mushrooming of hotels selling liquor illegally and also check the modus operandi of various wine traders and retail outlets in Bordumsa. Steps will be taken to verify the status of their licenses and cross-check those with the actual number of retail outlets operating on the ground. Anyone found violating the Excise Rules would be dealt with as per law," assured Changlang DC Dr. Devansh Yadav on Sunday.st. Mounting pressures have been built from various quarters to drop further publication of the story on the issue.

When contacted, Bordumsa ADC Talo Jerang said, "Matters in a border location is sensitive. Still I would cross-check the validity of the story and act accordingly in the interest of the people and the place. Defaulters would be acted upon immediately." The official took charge in July 2020.

Meanwhile, one of the former ADCs of Bordumsa said, "We as administrators work mostly upon the already existing format that our predecessors had set during the decades-long Congress rule here in Bordumsa." He further narrated how in spite of willingness to reform the system, they normally fail chiefly because "the Bordumsa administrators are frequently transferred".

"Even some of the government buildings were ironically ceded to liquor traders to store the liquor consignments without approval of the competent authority. These traders do not even pay rent against the use of government property," said another ADC who had served Bordumsa earlier.

'Altogether four ADCs had been transferred within a year or so from Bordumsa in Changlang district. Under the given scenario, it appears that the deep-rooted and stable illegal traders have constituted a powerful lobby. They weild more power than the short-time administrators," added the official.

The most surprising aspects regarding the menaces are the sensitive locations and the forbidden zones within which around nine retail outlets are located. These were set up during the times of the earlier decade-long Congress Minister of the local area.

An official of the Subdivision expected the Assam administration to crack down on the customers from Assam who purchase liquor from Arunachal outlets and carry them back to their State in bulk.
