Itanagar: In a revenge murder case, the police in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng district have filed the charge sheet and supplementary charge sheet against the accused, within the stipulated legal timeframe.
All the accused are currently in judicial custody, awaiting trial, East Kameng Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamdam Sikom informed on Thursday.
The case traces back to December 12, 2023, when Kojom Dada and Talam Dada from Kapu Dada village lodged a missing person report concerning their father, who had gone to tend to their agricultural field near the Pachi river but failed to return.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was promptly formed under the supervision of the SP, including deputy SP Mibom Yirang, Inspector Tadu Hassang, sub-inspector Dukhum Abu, and several constables.
A day later, the SIT recovered a naked body from the Pachi river bearing multiple deep cut wounds on the head, back, and neck, suspected to have been inflicted with a machete (dao). A case was registered at Chayang Tajo Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
With no eyewitnesses and the murder site located nearly 45 km from Seppa, investigators had few leads. However, the team relied on technical analysis with support from police headquarters, here.
A suspicious mobile number, active at the crime scene on December 13, became a crucial lead. This number was linked to other potential suspects and helped the SIT identify all the accused.
The case took a decisive turn in early January when the Itanagar Permanent Bench of the Gauhati High Court rejected anticipatory bail petitions of key suspects Kaller @Sambo Jelly Lamgu, Ashing Lamgu, Tabing Lamgu, Tungdang Lamgu, and Rasam Lamgu. The accused went underground and left the state.
