ITANAGAR: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday said that Chief Engineer (CE) of PHED has been deputed for ground verification of the charge that the non-potable water is being supplied in the Seppa town, of which the report will be out in a couple of days.

Speaking to the reporters, Khandu said that though he is yet to go through the memorandum submitted by social activist Sol Dodum, he is aware of the foot march and has asked the PHE & WS minister to look into the matter of water supply.

He said the Minister immediately deployed the CE of the department to verify the reports.

"I didn't go through the memorandum yet submitted by Sol Dodum as I was out of station, but I am aware of the march. I'll go through the memorandum and accordingly take further needed steps," he said.

Dodum, who has marched a distance covering around 250 km from Seppa to Itanagar demanding potable drinking water in the Seppa township, is now staging a sit-in dharna at the IG park near here.

Earlier, he also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding for a permanent PHED Executive Engineer (EE) in the district, replacing the in-charge incumbent Bharat Sonam.

He also demanded the formation of an SIT to investigate the recent attack on him and his colleagues during a peaceful protest in Seppa on April 12, departmental action against Sonam, transfer of Deputy Commissioner PA Polumatla, the registration of a case for probing corruption in the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Lai Moya and Macha and the water supply project at Kuchi Nallah.

He said Sonam has been serving in the post since 2015, too long a period warranting his replacement by a full-fledged EE. He also levelled various other corruption charges against the in-charge EE.
