Chief Minister Pema Khandu moves Amit Shah for separate civil services cadre

Itanagar: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to work out modalities for creation of separate cadre of IAS, IPS and IFS officers for the State to ensure speedy development.

At present, the State is manned by IAS, IPS and IFS officers from the AGMUT cadre, a common cadre for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories.

Addressing the 34th Statehood Day at Indira Gandhi Park here in presence of Shah, Khandu pointed out that despite 33 years of Statehood, the State is deprived of having its own cadre of civil services officers.

“We want a dedicated team of administrative officers which will help the state to realize the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of a ‘New India’,” Khandu said.

The Chief Minister said that posting of non-permanent IAS and IPS officers at higher bureaucracy in the state causes institutional memory loss that slows down the pace of development. “The State Government has time and again placed demands before the Centre for creating a separate cadre of IAS and IPS officers for Arunachal Pradesh revisiting the structure of the AGMUT cadre,” he said. Khandu said his State’s development had suffered significantly as a result of not having a cadre of its own. Arunachal Pradesh has a sanctioned strength of 42 IAS officers.

According to recent media reports, the Modi government has decided to revisit the structure of the AGMUT cadre. Union Minister for Personnel and Training Dr Jitendra Singh has prepared a concept note exploring the possibility of having a different cadre for officers from Arunachal Pradesh, the reports said.
