ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday said that the State Government has so far organized 1051 Sarkar Aap ke Dwar (SAKD) (governance at your doorstep) camps across the State, benefiting over 12 lakh people in remote areas under various Central and State flagship programmes.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day regional conference on 'Bringing citizens and Government closer through administrative reforms', Khandu informed that 26 mega SAKD camps were also organized as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, benefitting more than 5000 people.

"We will continue to conduct such programmes in the future for the convenience of the people," he said.

The Chief Minister urged upon the Centre to make policy decision for Arunachal Pradesh keeping in view the challenges and topography of the State.

Lauding the Centre for extending all possible help to the State, Khandu said that what development the Northeastern State witnessed in the last eight years was due to the focused initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the dedicated team of bureaucrats at the Centre.

"Aligned to the vision of vibrant Arunachal Pradesh@2047, the State Government recently launched the course planner at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, to create a robust Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service (APSC) to take the State to next level of growth and overall prosperity," Khandu said.

Stating that transparent model of governance is the prime focus of the State Government, Khandu added that the Government had already announced 2022-23 as the year of e-Governance and accordingly undertaking several initiatives.

"Arunachal will achieve the happiness index when the country will celebrate 100 years of Independence for which several initiatives are being taken up," Khandu added.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said on the occasion, "Our Government has taken many initiatives to ensure that the benefits of various programmes reach the last mile. Different approaches have been used for measurement and comparison of the performance of the districts."

The good governance index is conceptualized to focus on the good governance aspects which can vary from the development indices. Recognising the importance of this index, the Cabinet had, in January this year, taken a decision to prepare such an index for the State, he said.

"The index will provide valuable insights into the weak and strong areas of performance of the districts and highlight the disparities in development, thereby indicating areas where intervention is required. This may set the trend among other Northeastern States as well as propel healthy competition among the 25 districts of the State," Mein added.

State chief Secretary Dharmendra and Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) Secretary V Srinivas also spoke on the occasion, while DoNER secretary Lok Ranjan addressed the event virtually.
