Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar directs HPDCL to submit status report on hydro projects

Itanagar: State Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar on Friday directed the Hydro Power Development Corporation Ltd (HPDCL) to submit detailed status report of all the hydro power projects in the State being executed by them, within a week.

Taking stock of the hydro power projects in the State during a review meeting in his office, the Chief Secretary directed the corporation to come up with expert opinions and solutions to address the problem in deficit power generation by various power projects in the State against their installed capacities.

HPDCL managing director in the meeting informed that out of 127 small hydro projects in the State, 25 projects were defunct due to various reasons.

Understanding the technical potential for hydro power development in the State and the financial limitations, the Chief Secretary directed the HPDCL to prepare the list of defunct hydro power projects stating the reasons of being non-functional, an official communique informed.

Kumar suggested that the corporation should consult premiere institutions in order to revive the defunct hydro power projects.

The Chief Secretary also advised the HPDCL to develop the transmission system in such a manner that the electricity could be shared from one project to another area or district during bad weather conditions.

Kumar also reviewed the status of 2 X 1.5 mega watt Sumbha Chu small hydro project and 2 X 1.7 mw Taksang Chu project in Tawang district.
