ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Mama Natung on Wednesday highlighted the importance of his state in the efforts of climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Speaking at the third 'Sustainable Environment and Energy Summit' at New Delhi, the minister said that the state has the highest carbon stock in the country and is a biodiversity hotspot.

He highlighted the recent initiatives taken by the state in the field of climate change in the form of the Pakke Declaration and the Airgun and Gun Surrender Abhiyan.

"On the lines of the concept of 'Panchamrit' propounded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the COP 26 of UNFCCC, Arunachal Pradesh has adopted the 'Panch Dharas' or five thematic areas in the 'Pakke Declaration' to focus on climate change," he said.

He referred to the initiative of the state government in wildlife preservation through the airgun and gun surrender abhiyan where over 2000 airguns and guns have been voluntarily surrendered by the people of the state so far.

The Minister further invited the SRC (Social Responsibility Council), a Delhi based think tank on sustainable development, to hold similar summits in Arunachal Pradesh.

The state is the knowledge partner for the event.

Justice Svatanter Kumar, former Chairman of National Green Tribunal (NGT), in his keynote address, highlighted the golden triangle of environmental conservation that has been prescribed by the Constitution of India.

"The triangle is composed of the trio of Directive Principles of State Policy, Fundamental Duties and Article 21 of the Constitution where specific focus has been given on sustainable management of the environment," he added.

Khandi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairman Vinay Kumar Saxena also attended the summit.

The event was also attended by noted environmentalists, social workers, academicians, members of the judiciary, officers of the state Environment, Forest and Climate Change department among others, an official communiqué informed here.
