Coronavirus outbreak: State strengthens surveillance measures

Itanagar: The State has strengthened the surveillance measures in all the districts in the wake of Novel Coronavirus outbreak in China, affecting 24 countries worldwide, a government official said here on Tuesday.

A 24x7 control room has been set up at the State surveillance unit (SSU) and all districts have conducted coordination meeting between the district administration and district surveillance unit (DSU) to review preparedness, identification of isolation beds in district hospitals and dissemination of IEC (information, education and counselling) on the virus, State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa informed.

“Till date, as shared by the state health and family welfare ministry, there are no passengers from the State who have been identified travelling to and from China or other Corona affected countries,” Dr Jampa said.

He added that the people are advised to adhere to health advisories issued by the state government and should follow the cough etiquette by covering the nose and mouth using handkerchief and towel while sneezing or coughing.

“The people should frequently wash hand with soap and those who have arrived from the Corona affected countries should remain under strict home isolation for 28 days irrespective of whether they have the symptoms or not. They are advised not to have close contact with other family members, allow any visitors, go out to public places,” Dr Jampa said.

If anybody develops symptoms like cough, fever, difficulty in breathing should put mask and contact the nearest government health facility or call the 24X7 control room, he added. The recent Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCov) outbreak in Wuhan, China has been declared as international public health emergency of international concern. The global situation as on date has affected 42,767 persons with 1,013 deaths recorded. So far 3,950 patients have been recovered. In India so far three cases have been detected without any casualty.
