Itanagar: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday said that corruption was a big drain on young minds. Addressing the 22nd Convocation of Rajiv Gandhi University at Rono Hills in Doimukh near Itanagar, he said corruption was a password for a job, for a contract, for an opportunity. It has been neutralized from power corridors.

Dhankhar appealed to elected representatives to justify the trust imposed by the people of the country. Criticizing the use of deception as a political strategy to keep away from debate, dialogue, discussion, he reminded elected representatives that youth of the country are watching them, serving as watchdogs of democracy.

Highlighting India’s rise on the global stage, Dhankhar said India is on the rise. India is already the fifth largest global economy and is on its way to become the third largest, he said. The VP on the occasion encouraged promotion of local products.

By promoting local products, he said you will be contributing to the economy of the country. Congratulating the graduating students, Dhankhar advised them to take pride of being citizens of a great nation.

Arunachal governor KT Parnaik appealed to graduates to shoulder responsibility of building a brighter future for India.

Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the governor noted that education is the cradle of democracy and humanity, as well as the cornerstone of India’s vision of becoming Vishwa Guru Bharat.

The governor reminded the graduates that their degrees come with responsibilities, not only to themselves but also to their families, communities, and the nation. He urged them to embody the principles of being educated, disciplined, and motivated as a foundation for becoming exemplary citizens.

Reflecting on Arunachal Pradesh’s potential, the governor highlighted its strategic importance in tourism, trade, defence, and industrial growth. He said that to achieve Viksit Bharat through a Viksit Arunachal is our collective responsibility, while calling for collaboration and innovation to ensure inclusive progress.

The Vice President also took a dig at the opposition for disrupting the working of the Rajya Sabha. “I am ashamed, we cannot afford this kind of spectacle in a country that is mother of democracy,” Dhankhar said while addressing a special session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly here. “How we can settle as democracy. How we can we go against the spirit of constitution. How we can afford to woke out of our obligations,” he questioned. “I am happy to know that your assembly is otherwise. It’s a shining example of beacon of hope,” he said.

“We don’t have enemies in the country, we have differences,” Dhankhar said adding our political parties have to understand that ultimately interest of all converses, a nation prospers and nationalism blossoms.

We cannot under any situation keep any interests above national interests, he said.

On the development front, Dhankhar said the NE has captured the imagination of the country when the government formulated the Look East Policy. The Modi government has taken it to the next level by formulating the Act East Policy, he said. The VP said the importance of the region can be gauged from the fact that the region has a dedicated DoNER ministry.
