ITANAGAR: The people of Yachuli assembly constituency in the Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh have a reason to smile as Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced the creation of a new district, ‘Keyi Panyor’, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the local community. The announcement was made during a public meeting held at Yachuli on Wednesday, an official communiqué informed. The chief minister announced that, in response to popular demand, the government is ready to create Keyi Panyor district by bifurcating the existing Lower Subansiri district into two. “I am very clear on demands that are genuine. The creation of Keyi Panyor district will also fulfil the long-time aspiration of the people of the Apatani plateau to have their own district,” Khandu said.

Earlier in the day, Khandu inaugurated 33 development projects and laid the foundation for 34 projects in the constituency. He also inaugurated a tribal culture centre at New Pitapool and attended a prayer to Almighty Donyi Polo there. He also visited the museum, where traditional items related to the Nyishi tribe are on display. Also present on the occasion were local legislator and education minister Taba Tedir, home minister Bamang Felix, agriculture minister Tage Taki, and MLAs Biyuram Wahge, Nyamar Karbak, Ojing Tasing, Hayeng Mangfi, Phurpa Tsering, and Gokar Basar. Arunachal Pradesh will now have a total of 27 districts with the creation of Keyi Panyor.

Appreciating the people of Yachuli constituency for being the torchbearers in cultural as well as developmental aspects, especially for the Nysihis, Khandu said the region has been the nucleus of the emerging Nyishi tribe. He congratulated the people on having an able, sincere, and dedicated representative in Education Minister Taba Tedir. “I have known Tedir since he was heading the urban development department as its chief engineer. He is a very capable person and has proved it by bringing in unprecedented developmental projects to the constituency. You all are lucky indeed that Tedir resigned from his government post and decided to serve you as your legislator,” Khandu added.
