Cyber forensic training for judiciaries held in Arunachal

ITANAGAR: The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) here, in association with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) Kolkata, an autonomous scientific society under the administrative control of the Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), organized a day-long cyber forensic training programme for judiciaries of the Itanagar permanent bench of Gauhati High Court on Sunday. The training was sponsored by the ministry under the project ‘Development of Cyber Forensic Training-cum-Investigation Labs in North Eastern States and Cloud-Based Centralised Cyber Forensic Lab Infrastructures, which is being implemented by CDAC, Kolkata, and NIELIT, Kohima. During the inaugural session, Tailang Laji, joint registrar of the Itanagar bench of the Gauhati High Court, emphasised how analysis of digital evidence, cyber laws, and cyber acts is becoming increasingly important for investigation and prosecution. He stressed the importance of providing adequate training to the judiciaries for representing digital evidence in court and the importance of empowering the judiciaries with the appropriate knowledge and tools of cyber forensics, and further appreciated the initiative taken by CDAC, Kolkata, and NIELIT Itanagar for such a training programme.

Associate Director and Project Chief Investigator of CDAC Asok Bandyopadhyay, in his deliberations, described the scope, deliverables, and importance of the MeitY-sponsored cyber forensic project, especially in the context of the NE states. He emphasised the need for such training for the judiciaries of the state and thanked the high court for its cooperation. A team comprising experts from CDAC and NUJS Kolkata provided training sessions on the communication devices-cybercrime perspective, appreciation and attribution of digital evidence, the IT Act, social media forensics, and mobile forensics. Altogether, 47 judiciaries ges attended the training, according to a press release here.
