Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein Introduces Important Bill in Assembly

Itanagar: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Tuesday introduced an important government bill in its amendment form, on the floor of the Legislative Assembly for its consideration and passing by the members.

The Arunachal Pradesh Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020, introduced by Mein, would enable enhancement of the threshold limit for registration in the state from twenty lakh to fourty lakh if the state so desire and made Aadhar authentication necessary for registration as tax payer.

Moreover, the bill would also provide other alternatives and viable means of identification in case of failure to undergo Aadhar authentication.

“Earlier, there were dual authority for sanctioning and processing of refund. Now the new legislation provides a single authority for sanctioning and processing of refund through online which would be beneficial to the tax payer,” the statement of the bill said.

Assembly Secretary M Lasa during the proceedings, informed the house about the bills passed in the last session of the assembly which was assented to by the governor.

The bills include, Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta Amendment Bill 2019, state Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2019, Municipal Corporation Bill 2019, Higher Education Council Bill 2019, Protection of Medical Services Personals and Medical Services (Prevention of Violence and Demands or Loss of Property) Bill 2019 and Arunachal Pradesh Appropriation (No 2) Bill 2019.

The secretary also laid in the house the annual report of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission for the year 2017-18, annual report of Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (2018) and the report of Comptroller and Auditor General of India ended on March 31, 2018.

The speaker also announced the panel of chairmen for the current session which includes Zingnu Namchoom, Lombo Tayeng, Nyamar Karbak and Biyuram Wahge, before adjourning the house for the day.
