ITANAGAR, July 30: The family members of detained Students Union Movement of All Arunachal (SUMAA) leader Tarh Rikam and Suraj ligu along with about 100 students staged a dharna for the early release of the leaders at Tennis Court, Itanagar on Monday.

The duo has been earlier arrested by Itanagar Police under the provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2014.

Father of Tarh Rikam, Tarh Sillo said that, my son has no criminal record so far nor is he a terrorist. Criminals are kept in the jail not a person who is being detained. I believe whatever issue he has raised is for the welfare and protection of indigenous people rights.

"My son is on hunger strike along with his friend in the jail, if anything happens to him, the concerned Minister of the West Kameng district and the Chief Minister have to hold responsibility," Sillo added.

Tarh Gambo from the family addressing the crowd said that, Tarh Rikam and Suraj ligu have been detained illegally without any section under IPC. They duo has been fighting for indigenous right and against the state governments policy to give 20% job reservation for Tibetan refugees in health and education sectors in government of Arunachal Pradesh.

Gambo said that, the youth are now on hunger strike since a week in the jail and are committed to give their life for people of Arunachal Pradesh. "On humanitarian ground, we extend our support to them in raising their voice against the state government and demand for their early release," he added.
