District Level Committee discusses remission to prisoners, Itanagar

ITANAGAR: In response to Government of India directive to give Special Remission to Prisoners (SRP) to befit three occasions, birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 this year and 2019 and Dandi March on April 6, the District Level Committee on SRP met under the chairmanship of West Siang District, Sode Potom on Monday.

Chairing the meeting the DC Sode Potom highlighted the instructions given by the Government of India for special remission and release of women convicts of 55 years of age and above, transgender convicts of 55 years of age and above, male convicts of 60 years and above, physically challenged/disabled, terminally-ill convicts, all who have completed 50% of their actual sentence period and convicted prisoners who have completed two- third(66% ) of their actual sentence period as a part of humanitarian values to for which Gandhiji stood for to mark the coming three important occasions. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Hirendra Kashyap highlighted all custodial detentions and placed before the committee the list of UTPS at Judicial Custody and disclosed that not a single prisoner falls within the purview of six categories of prisoners as enshrined in the guideline set by the Government of India.
