ITANAGAR: Arunachal unit Kreeda Bharati president Takam Tatung on Sunday asked politicians not to mix politics with business. “Better be a businessman or a contractor rather than a politician,” Tatung said during a reception and interaction programme here. Taking a veiled dig at politicians from Kra Daadi district, he accused them of taking up contract work and allowing family members to participate in government tenders. “Politicians should concentrate on fulfilling the basic needs of the people rather than making money at the expense of the people’s future,” he said without naming anyone. On the pathetic education scenario in the district, Tatung, a former AAPSU leader, said government-run schools in the state in general and Kra Daadi in particular need drastic upgradation. He said the school infrastructure is crumbling and the quality of teaching is declining instead of improving. He blamed the people’s representatives for the sorry state of affairs in the sector, saying we can’t blame the government as they are pumping money; it is for the people’s representatives to ensure that every penny is spent for the purpose it is meant for.

Accusing politicians from the district of not giving priority to the health and education sectors, he alleged that they only come for contract work, to inaugurate the project, and to party. “They are least bothered by the general welfare of the people,” he said. Claiming that many schools in Chambang, including the primary school at Rongte Rite, were defunct due to the low enrollment of students, Tatung wondered if the government secondary school at Chambang was functioning with excess teachers (16) against only 15 students. He also expressed concern over the encroachment of school land in the Old Palin government secondary school due to the absence of a proper boundary wall.

The former student leader also expressed serious concern over the pathetic condition of the 50-bed hospital at Palin, saying the hospital building is under imminent threat as it has not been constructed properly. He requested the Kra Daadi district administration and the people’s representative take corrective measures before it’s too late. He also blamed the politicians from the district for the poor surface connectivity, especially in Yangte Circle, saying that they have not been working for the benefit of the people and that the execution of work was not proper. Highlighting his contributions as a student leader, Tatung reckoned that he was ready to plunge into electoral politics. “If the party and party leaders give me a ticket to contest the elections, I will work for the all-round development of my constituency,” he added.
