Dr B D Mishra calls for improving education sector

ITANAGAR, Sept 4: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein called on Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra at Raj Bhavan on Monday and discussed various developmental issues of the State.

B D Mishra emphasized on improving the education sector of the State, and on speedy collection and distribution of textbooks. He advised the DCM to plan in advance for procurement of textbooks for the next academic session, “so that the needy students receive their books at the beginning of their academic session.” Appreciating the DCM for facilitating the commencement of the Sainik School by addressing the departmental land issue, the Governor requested him to ensure the State government’s commitment towards the school. The two also discussed the safety of the villagers near the Dollungmukh IAF firing range, and it was emphasized that the standard operating procedure should be meticulously complied with.

Meanwhile, the State Education Minister Honchun Ngandam called on the Governor too. The Governor advised the Minister to focus on infrastructure requirement of the educational institutions starting from Primary Schools. He also asked the Minister to streamline the issue of Mid-day meals. Sharing his interaction with the Human Resource Development Minister, the Governor also expressed his concern regarding the non-posting of heads of premier institutes of the State, i.e. Rajiv Gandhi University and National Institute of Technology. The Governor informed that to strengthen the education sector of the State, he has constituted a ‘Study Committee’ which will be submitting their findings very soon.
