Dr Bhupen Hazarika Nite At State Banquet Hall In Itanagar

Itanagar: With the aim to further the age-old relationship between Assam and Arunachal in years to come, the Bhupen Hazarika Fans Club (BHFC) here, has proposed to organize an event titled “Bhupen Hazarika Nite - Uniting Hills & Plains” at the State Banquet Hall on August 11 next.

A group of prominent artists from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to perform during the event with a mission to strengthen the relationship between the sisters states for the purpose of peaceful co-existence, event coordinator Penya Bagra said here on Wednesday.

Nephew of the music maestro, Rishiraj Sarma, who is a name by himself, has also consented to perform in the event.

Former journalist of the Indian Express Samudra Gupta Kashyap is the convener of the gala event.

“Dr Bhupen Hazarika was one among the pioneers in strengthening the age-old relationship between the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. His instrument for social change was music and songs, and he used this tool so effectively that there is hardly any soul across the region in general and the two states in particular who do not naturally hum a Bhupen Hazarika song in his or her subconscious state,” Bagra said.

“What is even more important for Arunachal Pradesh is that he was literally born inside this state when it was known as NEFA, and it was because of this reason that a huge statue of the musician-singer-filmmaker has been installed at Bolung,” he added. It is a matter of fact that

Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are inter-dependent in terms of socio-economic and political growth of both states.

Unfortunately, the age-old cordial relationship between two sister states have been often sought to be severed day by day due to acculturation of Western practices, apart from many more unforeseen issues and incidents caused by certain unscrupulous vested interested groups and individuals.
