ITANAGAR: Drains are the key ingredient for construction of sustainable roads, particularly in hilly region, according to Border Roads Organization (BRO) Additional Director General (East) PKH Singh.

ADG Singh, who is on a four-day trip to Arunachal Pradesh to inspect under-construction roads, recalled that this was his first lesson given by a commander rank officer whom he had reported to after joining duty in 1988.

He was responding to a question as to why most of the roads in this hilly State without no drainage system or defective drainage system used to be washed away or sustain massive damages during rainy days.

ADG Singh, accompanied with BRO Project Arunanak Chief Engineer Brig Anirudh S Kanwar and Ziro-based 756 Commander Col KK Tiwari, is touring the Upper Subansiri district and expected to inspect Maza, a border post located in the district along India's Line of Actual Control.

The road was finally linked with rest of the country on December 28 last under the supervision of site officer Capt Satyam and 128 RCC OC Lt Col Abhimanyu Qadian.
