SEPPA: The East Kameng district administration on Tuesday held a meeting to review the physical progress and financial status of the Seppa-Chayangtajo NEC road at the conference hall of the DC's office here.

Addressing reporters, Deputy Commissioner Pravimal Abhishek Polutmala said that to monitor the project on a regular basis, a meeting was held with members of East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organization (EKSWCO) and other Government officials.

He said that following the direction of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, a committee was earlier formed to monitor the work progress as well as to check financial status, consisting of DC as the Chairman and the EKSWCO president as the member of the committee.

He said that during the meeting, the PWD, Chayangtajo Division was directed to furnish the total fund available till date. He said that Rs 16.92 crore was available with the concerned department, out of the total fund allocated under NEC for the project.

The DC also informed that the recently-announced fund of Rs 12.92 crore by the Chief Minister has been sanctioned. However, it was discussed today that whether a fresh tender should be called or an extended agreement should be made with the same contractor.

"So, the committee has advised the Executive Engineer (EE) PWD to decide the modalities to utilize the Rs 12.92 crore by the end of March this year. Therefore, a tentative action plan on the utilization of the fund will be provided by the department," he said.

The committee has also observed during the meeting that the Gammon Engineering and Contractors Pvt Ltd have not yet submitted the bank guarantee for the extended period of agreement. Therefore, it was directed to the department to submit the full bank guarantee to the committee by the principal contractor.

"It came to our knowledge that few individuals and sub-contractors are executing the work on their own. Therefore, the committee has come up with the conclusion that the entire work on repair and renovation under the stretch should be taken up only under the administrative and technical supervision of EE, PWD, Chayangtajo," he added.

He also said that the committee suggested that the department include CC drainage construction within the Seppa township area in the DPR. The next meeting will be held on April 22 next, wherein MLA Goruk Pordung, Hayeng Mangfi, Tapuk Taku along with Superintendent Engineer (SE), PWD Sagalee will participate.

Meanwhile, EKSWCO general secretary Boru Sangyu said that people residing in between Seppa-Chayangtajo stretch should take ownership to complete the road for the greater interest of the district.

He said that the fund should be used judiciously with proper quality and timely completion.
