Eight fresh COVID cases reported across Arunachal Pradesh, tally rises to 16,861

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh witnessed a sudden spurt in COVID-19 cases, with eight more persons tested positive for the infection in the past 24 hours, said a senior Health official said here on Thursday.

The total caseload in the State rose to 16,861, informed State Surveillance Officer Dr Lobsang Jampa on Thursday.

Of the fresh cases, two each were detected from the Capital Complex Region, Namsai and Lower Dibang Valley districts while one case each was also detected in West Kameng and Lohit districts respectively.

Among the new cases, two are workers of BRO (Border Roads Organisation) who had recently returned from Uttar Pradesh, while one is an Army personnel and the other is a jawan of the ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police). Barring two all the persons are asymptomatic and were detected through Rapid Antigen Tests.

Arunachal Pradesh has currently 17 active cases, while 56 people died due to the contagion so far.

Meanwhile, two more persons recuperated from the infection on Wednesday taking the total number of recoveries in the State to 16,788.

The recovery and positivity rates in the State currently stand at 99.56 per cent and 0.10 per cent respectively.

The Capital Complex Region comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas has the highest number of active cases at four followed by Lower Dibang Valley (3), Namsai, Tirap, Upper Subansiri and West Kameng with two each cases while, Lohit and Changang with one each case respectively.

Altogether, 4,15,547 samples have been tested so far, including 330 on Wednesday, added Dr Jampa.

On the other hand, a total of 96,887 persons have been inoculated in the State so far since the vaccination drive began in January this year, said State Immunization Officer Dr Dimong Padung.
