Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Bamang Felix has urged the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to expedite the work on the strategic road which has been lying pending for long.

In a review meeting on Monday with NHIDCL General Manager Prabhat Kumar on the Joram-Koloriang Road, the Home Minister pointed out that since the monsoon is gradually receding, the primary works like shifting of essential services, water supply, power poles should be immediately started in order to facilitate smooth construction of the road.

The 138 km road is estimated to be constructed at a cost of Rs 900 crores.

A total of 85 electrical poles and 23039 meters of water supply pipelines have been posing hindrances in execution of the road, which needs to be shifted immediately to ease the construction work, officials informed.

It is worth mentioning that the foundation stone of the stretch of the road was laid in December last year by Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and host of other dignitaries.

The stretch of road was also in news for the excessive disbursement of compensation for which an enquiry was constituted and those found involved have been arrested by the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) of the state police.

Felix stressed on the necessity of regular reviews and monitoring for addressing the issues confronted by the executing agency and expediting projects across the state.

The minister assured to take regular reviews on the progress of the road.

Earlier, the NHIDCL updated about the delay of highways project and also informed about the progress and future plan regarding the Joram- Koloriang Highway project, the sources added.
