ITANAGAR: In a bid to fight the menace of traffic violation in Capital Complex, the City police have launched a ‘Facebook group’ with the nomenclature ‘Let Us Fight Traffic Violators in Capital’.

The denizens can directly upload the pictures or video of traffic violators, place and time on the Facebook timeline and city police will summon them to police station or the court penalize them as per appreciate section of MVI rules.

Soon after its creation, the denizens concerned of Capital Complex flooded the social media platform with photos of people violating the traffic rules in and around Itanagar and Naharlagun.

As of Sunday evening, over 3,000 people joined the ‘Facebook Group’ and posted series of photos and videos showing people deliberately violating the traffic rules.

City SP Tumme Amo, who is personally handling and monitoring the social media group, said that the Facebook Group is a new concept to fight the menace of traffic violation in Capital Complex from June 7.

“Since, it is not possible always to stop traffic violators on the roads to challan or impose fines on them lest it causes more traffic jams and since number of violators is very high, we have decided to shoot the violations with our mobile cameras and to post them on Facebook and other social media to deter them from violating traffic rules in future and also to summon them to Police Stations or Courts in case of serious violations,” the SP said.

Informing that all the police officers, traffic police and Itanagar traffic wardens (ITWs) have been instructed to challan or impose fines on traffic violators or at least take pictures of their violations like wrong parking or parking in no parking zones, wrong overtaking, wrong registration numbers or vehicle without registration numbers, the SP fervently requested the media and citizens to post/upload or forward the photos of such violations except in case of overtaking by ambulances, fire services, Z plus VIPs and police or magistrate on urgent public duties to the police.
