Five-day theatre festival organized by NSD enlightens Itanagar

Itanagar: The five-day theatre festival organized by the National School of Drama began here on Tuesday with a staging of Tritiyo, a drama written and directed by Ranhang Choudhury

After Guwahati and Agartala, the team is all set to give a grand theatrical experience to the audience here with five different plays.

State Cultural Affairs Minister Taba Tedir graced the inaugural function along with Director Art & Culture Opak Gao. NSD faculty member, Assistant Professor Dipankar Paul was also present at the event, a press communique informed here on Wednesday.

“After efficaciously initiating the ceremony in Guwahati and Agartala NSD is now taking this ahead in Itanagar. The idea behind the event is to reach out to a much wider set of audiences with works from the regional theatre with the aim to highlight the position of theatre and plays and endorse the culture and motivating various art forms,” Paul said in his address.

Tedir in his deliberation stated that NSD has been setting a benchmark by showcasing and introducing probably the best works in theatre everywhere throughout the nation.

“This is an inspirational perspective for the present generation to look into theatre as a professional aspect. Stages like Pragjyotish will help the locals to have access to the theatre,” the minister pointed out.

Gao in his remarks said that NSD has been giving a platform to the aspiring actors for many years.

“The theatre festivals like Pragjyotish at the regional level will definitely act as a bridge for the aspiring people from the remote locations to reach out to the Institution like NSD. It definitely acts as a connection to theatre,” he added.

Echoing his thoughts Dr. Arjun Deo Charan, Acting Chairman of NSD said, “Theatre aims at uniting individuals and subsequently, we have spread the celebration to endorse theatre at a regional level with the goal to reach out an increasing number of individuals. Pragjyotish will be an effective celebration drawing in a ton of crowd and we trust a comparative run for the current year as well.”

Besides the plays which would be staged every evening, the campus would be abuzz with allied performance including, traditional dance and folk performances, the communique added.
