ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh IGP (Inspector General of Police) — Law & Order, Chukhu Apa has informed that there may be involvement of foreign elements behind the arson of 'Research and Analysis Wing' (RAW) and 'Special Investigation Branch' (SIB) offices at Vijaynagar under Changlang district of the State.

Replying to a question as to whether there was any 'foreign involvement' in the arson, Apa said that the matter is of investigation; and the department is looking into every aspect. The reply from the IGP came on the sidelines of a press briefing on the law-and-order arrangement in the State regarding the rural polls and municipal polls in the State.

He also informed that the situation is peaceful and normalcy has returned after the incident of arson at Vijoynagar under Changlang district of the State on December 11.

"As of now, six FIRs have been registered in connection to the arson incident which is transferred to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Itanagar. One of the FIR has been registered by the SIB," he said, adding that the police are still in pursuit to nab the other people involved in the arson. Apa said that all the accused in the case will be transported to Itanagar for further investigation.

On December 13, a total of 24 people were detained from Hozulu Village. Among them, eight turned out to be juveniles and one had serious health issues. While the one with health issues was granted bail the day, the others were taken into custody and brought to Miao. The next day, two more were arrested from Dawodi Village and were taken into custody.

"On Thursday last, 13 more were detained from Gandhigram village among which nine were arrested. But due to administrative logistic issues, the Executive Magistrate of Vijaynagar has issued bail to the nine arrested persons," he said.

He said that of the 39 persons detained, 26 have been arrested so far, adding that seven are women.
