Forest officials seize hunting guns near wildlife park

Itanagar: In a crackdown on illegal hunting activities inside the Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary in East Siang district, the officials of Pillumukh Beat under Anchalghat Range of the sanctuary seized 4 SBBL guns and one air gun with telescope from a car parked opposite the sanctuary.

However, the suspected hunters fled away taking advantage of the darkness, forest officials informed here. The seizure was made early Wednesday.

According to Anchalghat Range Forest Officer (RFO) Yimar Rina, the patrolling team led by Deputy Range Officer Getem Borang detected a group of persons who were coming out from the sanctuary after hunting inside the protected areas at Pillumukh in the right bank of Siang River near Pillumukh Beat on the intervening night of February 4 and 5 last. “On being challenged, the hunters ran away taking advantage of the darkness but left behind their arms,” the RFO said.

Rina who, handed over the seized guns to the DFO, in a FIR lodged at the Sille-Oyan Police Station stated that due to excessive hunting inside the sanctuary, there is likelihood of rapid displacing of flora & fauna which will affect the rich bio-diversity of the protected areas.

He has requested the Sille-Oyan police station to investigate the matter so that the culprits are punished suitably.

Meanwhile, DFO Tasang Taga has warned each and every hunters not to carry out illegal hunting activities inside the sanctuary and cautioned of stringent punishment besides, permanent seizure of guns and cancellation of licenses.
