ITANAGAR: Former Minister Dibang Tatak died at the Dedicated Covid Hospital (DCH) near here Sunday morning due to Coronavirus infection, family sources said.

He was admitted at the facility a few days ago.

Tatak (58) represented Rumgong Assembly Constituency in West Siang district for two terms during 1995 and 2004 as a Congress MLA.

According to sources, he was diabetic and also had heart ailments.

State Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra has condoled the sudden demise of Tatak.

The governor said that Tatak, in his long political career, made remarkable contribution to the state in various capacities.

"In the passing away of Tatak, the state has lost a grassroot leader, who served the society as Gram Panchayat member, member of the State Legislative Assembly and as a minister".

The Governor offered prayers to the almighty to give fortitude to the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss and eternal peace for the departed soul.

Chief Minister pema Khandu also mourned the death of the former minister.

"Sad to know that former Minister Dibang Tatak is no more. May God give his family members strength to bear the loss. My heartfelt condolences and may the departed soul rest in peace forever," Khandu tweeted.

Taking to twitter Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said, "Deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of former Minister Shri Dibang Tatak ji today. Two termed MLA from Rumgong Constituency, he served the people of state as Minister and Chairman. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and pray to Almighty to comfort them." Legislative Assembly Speaker P D Sona has expressed deep shock and grieved over the demise of Tatak.

In his condolence message, the Speaker said that Tatak was an experienced and committed leader, who made lots of important contributions towards the development of the state.

''His sudden and untimely demise is a great loss to the State,'' the Speaker said.

The Speaker also sincere and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, and prayed to the Almighty God for eternal peace of his departed soul.

"Very saddened to hear about the untimely demise of former minister Dibang Tatak ji. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends and I pray for peace, strength and comfort in this hard time," former Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Nabam Tuki tweeted.
