Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki Replaces Takam Sanjoy as APCC Chief

Itanagar: Former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has been appointed as Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president on Wednesday replacing incumbent president Takam Sanjoy.

The Congress high command also appointed senior Congress MLA Lombo Tayeng representing Mebo assembly constituency in East Siang district as the Congress Legislature Party leader in the state assembly, party sources informed here on Thursday. Tuki, who is the sitting MLA from Sagalee assembly constituency in Papum Pare district, had served as the chief minister from November 1, 2011 to January 26, 2016. Nabam Tuki also served as Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) president during 1988 to 1995 while Tayeng has been re-elected from Mebo for the second consecutive term.

The Al India Congress Committee (AICC) has also appreciated Sanjoy and former CLP leader Takam Pario for their contributions to the party.

The Congress had fielded 57 candidates during 2019 assembly elections but won from only four seas and lost both the Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh.

The BJP has won 41 seats including three seats unopposed in the 60-member assembly while Janata Dal (United) had won seven seats, National People’s Party (NPP) five, Congress four, People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) one and independents two.
