ITANAGAR: Four people died due to insufficient supply of oxygen inside a wellbore at Durpang village under the Banderdewa police station in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.

The deceased are Techi Kojum (24), Mani Kumar Deori (37), Ajay Chakma (28) and Sukroraju Chakma (48).

The SDRF team from Narayanpur Police Station immediately jumped to action receiving the information and succeeded to recover two of the bodies during the search operation. The team could not find the other two.

The SDRF also confirmed that the death was due to an insufficient supply of oxygen in the well.

Capital SP T Ammo in a statement said that the incident happened around 10 am today. He said that one Techi Galo from Durpang village had hired Mani Kumar Deori to clean the well. During the cleaning of the well, Deori succumbed to death due to less oxygen in the well, he said.

"Seeing her, people started shouting and then the brother of Techi Galo, Techi Kojum went inside the well in an attempt to save Mani Deori but couldn't save her and fainted and fell," he added. Likewise in the process of saving each other, Ajay Chakma and his father Sukroraju Chakma also fainted due to the less oxygen supply inside the well.

The SP informed that efforts are being made to retrieve the remaining two bodies.
