ITANAGAR: The general cremation ground at 21 Mile area of Pasighat, the headquarters of East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh has reportedly turned into a dumping ground of waste materials, which is causing large-scale pollution in the Jarku and Muriline areas thereby posing a potential threat to human lives.

The residents of Jarku village adjacent to general cremation ground have appealed to the district administration, municipal bodies and Urban Development department to find out alternative means of disposing the waste materials, which may cause serious health hazard among the nearby human population.

People going to the 21 Mile area for cremation and burial purposes, have also shared their experience of foul smell and very unhygienic environment where flies are found in large numbers, including hobnobbing of meat/carcass eating birds like vulture, kites and crows.

The departments concerned with the initiative of DA need to look into this appeal of the public, which if not checked, is likely to cause more health hazard to the human population nearby.
