Geological Survey of India urged to survey along China border

ITANAGAR: An annual interaction meeting of officials of Geological Survey of India (GSI) under Ministry of Mines with the Department of Geology and Mining, Government of Arunachal Pradesh was held today in Itanagar.

The meeting discussed the geological survey and drilling activities by GSI and sharing of information and data with the State Department of Geology and Mining. The meeting was attended by Deputy Director General (GSI), Itanagar TL Shitiri and chaired by Secretary (Geology and Mining) Bidol Tayeng.

During the discussion, survey and drilling activities carried out by GSI in different parts of the State was reviewed. The GSI presented status of mineral deposits in different parts of the State. The GSI revealed that about 35% deposits of graphite of the country are found in Arunachal Pradesh. The country is now importing this mineral from other country and therefore, the State could be the leading producer of graphite in the country in future.

Bidol Tayeng emphasized that the survey and drilling activities of the GSI be moved towards the Indo-China international border considering the fact that China was reportedly undertaking huge mining activities across the border in Tibet. The development of road towards the international border should be a boon for exploration of mineral in the international border.

During the discussion, the GSI was requested to share information, data and its technical know-how with the State Department of Geology and Mining. The GSI was also requested by the State officials to provide hand-holding in the exploration of the minerals to the Department. Both the departments agreed for promoting geo-tourism in the State particularly in places where there are rich deposits of lime.
