‘Government Committed To Modernize Dairy Sector’ Says Gopa Kumaran Nair

ITANAGAR: State NABARD General Manager and Officer-in-Charge Dr Gopa Kumaran Nair attended the State level workshop on Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS) and National Livestock Mission (NLM) on Wednesday.

Nair in his speech elaborated the broad objective of the meeting and informed that the Government of India has launched the DEDS scheme to augment income of farmers and to modernize the dairy sector. “Under the scheme, credit linked subsidy up to 33.33% is provided to entrepreneurs for establishment of dairy units,” he said while adding that the ground level situation such as availability of land and water, higher prices for produce, infrastructure available in veterinary sector etc., are conducive for establishment of dairy units in Arunachal Pradesh. He also urged the bankers to provide loan to potential entrepreneurs for establishment of dairy units and to follow due procedure to claim subsidy, online.

A detailed presentation, containing salient features of the DEDS scheme was made by NABARD Manager Baidya Nath Singh. He said that as per guidelines, banks have to upload proposal for subsidy within 30 days after sanctioning and claim eligible subsidy within 30 days after date of first upload through a dedicated online portal of the department.

Meanwhile, Assistant General Manager, NABARD, Reji Varghese enlightened the house on the salient features of National Livestock Mission (NLM). He informed that pig rearing is a common activity amongst rural populace of the state and huge demand for pork meat throw opportunity for commercial rearing of piggery in a cluster mode here.

It was informed to the house that to assess the dairy potential in the State of Arunachal Pradesh, a collaborative study was conducted in three district of Papum Pare, Lohit & East Siang by NABARD & Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Papum Pare.

The meeting was attended by higher level officers from state level bankers committee, directorate of agriculture, state cooperative apex bank, Arunachal Pradesh rural bank, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Papum Pare, major Banks and other line departments.
