Government firm on Hollongi as Greenfield Airport site
Itanagar, May 26: Against the backdrop of recent outpourings and allegations against the State government by many opposition leaders over the delay in finalization of Greenfield Airport, the government has reiterated its stand saying that it is committed to construction of Airport at Hollongi.
In a statement, government spokesperson Passang Dorjee Sona said that the cabinet decision taken on May 10 last finalizing Hollongi as the site for Greenfield Airport was being submitted to Civil Aviation Ministry (CAM) shortly.
Sona said a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Urban Development Minister Nabam Rebia with Agriculture Minister Wangki Lowang, RD and Panchayat Minister Alo Libang, Industries, Textile & Handicrafts Minister Tamiyo Taga and all Secretaries, Commissioners and Principal Secretaries concerned as members pertaining to the ownership and status of land for the site.
The committee was requested to submit its recommendations on the status and ownership of land earmarked for Hollongi Airport, after examining all the relevant documents, papers, orders of the court by January 26 last, he said.
The committee after going through all the voluminous records finally submitted its report recently and the State cabinet on May 10 last discussed the report submitted, which details the status of ownership of land measuring 948.56 acres at Hollongi for the construction of the airport as sought by the Centre and its recommendations, Sona said.
"The cabinet approved the recommendations of the committee and will submit it to the Civil Aviation ministry for further necessary action," the spokesman added.
