Government to Probe ‘Misuse’ of Trans Arunachal Highway Fund: CM Pema Khandu

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday assured to probe allegation on misappropriation of fund provided for repair and maintenance of the Trans Arunachal Highway (TAH) portion in Upper Subansiri district of the state as alleged by BJP MLA Nyato Rigia in the House.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour discussion, Rigia alleged misappropriation of amount to the tune of 60 crore while executing the road between Daporijo and Dumporijo in the district under the Potin-Pangging stretch of TAH. The MLA who represented Taliha constituency in the district alleged that almost 70 per cent payment was made by the PWD on recommendation of the deputy commissioner without any progress of the road.

While asking the government to deal with the situation with iron hands, Rigia rued that the people of the district always suffer and being alienated.

Responding to the charge, Khandu informed that works on the Potin-Pangging portion of the TAH was not going smoothly like in other parts of the state for which the state government had sanctioned an amount of 60 crore for repair and maintenance 336.7 km of the road by the state public works department.

“The State Government had authorised Upper Subansiri district deputy commissioner to constitute a monitoring committee to monitor all repair and maintenance works. The payment was made to the contractors only after recommendation of the committee,” the Chief Minister said.

“Though the payment was made only for the works completed but I assure the house to deputy another committee to fund out the facts as alleged,” Khandu added.
