Governor BD Mishra bats for innovative farming to boost yield

Itanagar: Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra on Monday emphasized on the need for promoting and adopting innovative methods in the State to shift from traditional jhum cultivation to more scientific process in order to enhance the productivity.

In a meeting with State Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary and Dairy Development Minister Tage Taki at Raj Bhawan here, the Governor stressed on experimenting new crops and techniques to have round the year farming.

During the meeting, the Governor and the minister discussed improving agriculture practices and exploring new avenues for entrepreneurship and employment in agriculture and its allied sectors.

Dr Mishra while expressing concern about the use of pesticides, suggested for developing bio-pesticide.

“The overuse of pesticides not only damages the environment but makes the soil unsuitable for the natural growth of the plants,” he said.

The Governor suggested that a team of State’s agriculturists and horticulturists should visit the Gurukal farm, started by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, to study and adopt the non-chemical farming ways for introduction in the State.

He also suggested to the minister for sponsoring tours and visits for the agriculturists, horticulturists and progressive farmers of the State to learn the latest techniques, which they must try as pilot projects and then share their experiences with farmers.

“The knowledge they learned must be transferred to the ground,” the Governor said.
