ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have mourned the sudden demise of Tai Khampti chief, Chow Khanchiang Namchoom, who passed away in Assam on Monday.

The Governor said that Namchoom, who was the first tribal Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) of the State and former chairman of the Chongkham Village Council, played a key role in the preservation and promotion of indigenous culture and language.

"In his passing away, the State and the Tai-Khamti society have lost a socially influential torch bearer, who immensely contributed to social reforms and development," the Governor said in his condolence message. "I join my Tai-Khamti brethren in praying to the Almighty to give eternal peace to the departed soul and strength and fortitude to the bereaved family and their near and dear ones to bear the irreparable loss," BD Mishra added.

Taking to Twitter, Pema Khandu said, "My heartfelt condolences to the family of Chow Khanchiang Namchoom Ji on his sad demise." Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also condoled the death of the chief.
